new research

Dear Baz and Lee,

I enjoyed your books Dead Men Walking and Cut to the Chase, which I read last month. Clearly something is wrong with the relationship between men and the Church in the UK, and I wanted to investigate just what that might be. So I wrote the attached my paper, "Disbanded Brothers - Has a 'Feminised' Church Alienated Men in the UK?", which I thought you might be interested in.

This paper:
- Explores reasons why British men are not attracted to Church
- Tries to measure the gender gap in our churches and looks for key variations
- Defines and investigates the 'feminisation' of the Church
- Considers the consequences of undervaluing men and women's distinctiveness
- Proposes six aspects of a way forward

It also includes:
- a short review of literature on men and the Church
- results of a gender perspectives survey of more than 450 British Christians
- a comprehensive bibliography of 170 books and articles in this area
- an appendix on male spirituality, with key quotes from 16 leading thinkers

I hope that this paper will help to stimulate debate on responses to the Church's missing men. Please feel free to forward it to anyone you think would be interested (or even post on your website!*).
